Cure Duchenne FUTURES – Event Branding & Mascot Design
CureDuchenne is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. One of its flagship events, CureDuchenne FUTURES, is a national two-day educational conference that brings together the Duchenne community for resources, learning, and connection in a family-friendly environment. Launched in 2019 at Disneyland in Anaheim, the event has since taken place virtually (2020), in Texas (2021), and in Orlando (2022).
For this event, I led the full branding and design, including the creation of Exon, the conference mascot. Exon, a powerful and imaginative robot, was inspired by the 79 exons in the dystrophin gene—referencing the scientific foundation of the disease and empowering children who are unable to walk. I designed the event logo, character accessories (customized by location), and all visual assets, from print materials to digital content, videos, website, email campaigns, and social media. I also developed a full merchandise line for giveaways and sales, collaborating with vendors to ensure timely production and delivery of signage and branded items.
One of the parents of a child with Duchenne was so deeply connected to the Exon character that they got a tattoo of the original drawing after the conference.
